The Hollywood Reporter says Leningrad-born 18-year-old Anton Yelchin has joined the cast of Star Trek XI as Pavel Chekov, who was first played by the nearly 31-year-old Walter Koenig in 1967. This is interesting, as Chekov did not join the show until its second year -- though Chekov must have been on the ship somewhere during the first year, otherwise Khan would not have recognized him years later in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982).

As I recall, Koenig's explanation for why Khan recognized him involved Khan having to wait outside the bathroom forever while Chekov was using it. And Khan, as you know, can really hold a grudge.
Also... An actual Russian playing Checkov? Can you do that? It just seems so wrong. :)
Heh, yeah, next thing you know, they'll be hiring an actual Scot to play Scotty, and not a Canadian with a fake accent!
^ Seriously. I heard a rumor a while back (probably on CinemaBlend) that James McAvoy is a candidate for Scotty. Please no.
what's his name?
the guy from the late, late show on CBS here in the States. there's your Scotty.
