Indiana Jones IV -- set in 1950s Connecticut?

The New Haven Register says a car chase in Indiana Jones IV will be shot on the outskirts of Yale University next month:
Indiana Jones will be racing up Chapel Street next month, a spokesman for director Steven Spielberg confirmed Monday.

The fourth installment of the hugely popular series, arriving in theaters almost 20 years after the third, will include some kind of car chase on Chapel between College and High streets. A pre-production crew was in the city last week and Monday talking to shop owners on the block. . . .

Levy said the filming dates are not set, but one merchant said she was told it would happen June 28 and 30. . . .

This one will be set in the 1950s, according to several merchants who were approached by crew members. Savitt Jewelers will become a pharmacy, according to owner Mike Rosenthal. And Enson’s men’s clothing store will become ... Enson’s.

"They wanted to make it look more like the 1950s, and I actually showed them pictures of what it looked like in the ’50s, since we’ve been here for 55 years," said owner Jim Civitello.

Next door, Rob Muller of Merwin’s Art Shop said he was asked to make his storefront look appropriate to the era. That shouldn’t be a problem. "We’ve got stuff that’s probably been here since the ’50s," he joked.

Lamb said New Haven was chosen because "they like the look of Yale" and added, "I think a lot of it has to do with the film incentives that are now in place ... and New Haven has been an extremely attractive location for filmmakers."
If this movie really does take place in the 1950s, then, given that Indiana Jones was born in 1899, it would seem he should be anywhere between 51 (his age in 1950) and 60 (his age in 1959) during the course of this film. Harrison Ford turns 65 in two months. So, depending on which precise year the film is set, he's not necessarily playing all that much younger than his real age.

MAY 24 UPDATE: The New Haven Independent says the film will take place in 1957, which would be when Indiana Jones is 58.

But I bet his romantic interest will be quite a bit younger than his age...

I know, not profound. Just one of those silly hollywood trends. Maybe we won't be bothered by having a love interest.....

Well, one of the first things we learned about Indy in Raiders of the Lost Ark was that he had had an affair with Marion when she was still a teenager.

I base this on the "official" timeline which states that Indy was 37 during the events of Raiders and had not seen Marion in 10 years, i.e. since he was 27 -- and on the fact that Karen Allen is 9 years younger than Harrison Ford, who was indeed 37 when Raiders went into production.

But consider also: "I was a child! I was in love! It was wrong and you knew it!" Or however that line goes.

And speaking of age gaps... Keep in mind that Alison Doody was 21 when The Last Crusade was filmed, and her character slept with both Indiana and his dad. At that point, the character Indiana Jones was 39 years old and the actor Harrison Ford was 46, while the character Henry Jones was 66 and the actor Sean Connery was 58.

So age gaps between the sex partners are nothing new to the Indiana Jones series. Indeed, they are almost integral to it!
